Ali Naderi made the remarks in his speech to the World Media Summit which underway in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, IRNA reported on Tuesday.
Naderi said in the speech that a joint research carried out in six continents and 46 markets by the University of Oxford and the London-based Reuters news agency had pointed to a further 2% drop in the public trust in the media in those regions last year.
Naderi said the main reason behind such low trust is that the audience feels the media do not give out a true and unbiased picture of various events that happen around the world.
People have access to the internet today and they can reach many sources to understand the realities of the occurrences, he underlined.
To clarify his remarks, the IRNA chief referred to the fake news released by the Zionist regime of Israel as an example of biased news.
He went on to say that the Zionist regime has no way but to release fake news to divert the public opinion from the realities.
The 5th World Media Summit is underway in Guangzhou, southern China, with the participation of directors of 197 international media since December 3.
The summit follows the theme of "Boosting Global Confidence, Promoting Media Development".
